Fried Dough

It's that time of year. Places are having fairs and festivals everywhere. And the sell that wonderful creation called a funnel cake. I was at a festival over the weekend. The had the usual suspects hot dogs, cold drinks, cotton candy and yes, the funnel cake. I don't know what it is about the treat that just starts my mouth watering. Honestly, it is just pancake dough friend in 350 or so degree oil until golden, brown and delicious. It's such a simple treat, but I only want it at a carnival or some sort of outdoor event. And wouldn't you know, I didn't get a single taste of a funnel cake all day. MJ frowns upon that kind of thing and wouldn't get me one. What's really sad about that is they were free.

Are you a funnel cake fan? Or are doughnuts more your style? Perhaps a beignet pleases your palate? Maybe a bag full of zeppolis are more to your liking. How do you like your dough fried? And do you have a favorite recipe you'd like to share?

Oh my, the funnel cakes were FREE and you didn't get one? Horrors! Seriously, there isn't anything like fried dough. We had beignets for breakfast at the Disney Mall before going on the park, delish. But funnel cakes are just different. Very yummy, very...fried!
I made Orange Drop Doughnuts back in February which were awesome right out of the frying pan.

Oh, I adore fried dough! There's a local fair near my parents and that is always a highlight of the day. Along with fresh donuts, Maine baked potatoes, etc. haha. My mom used to make mini fried doughs when we went camping, but that didn't last long since it took so much work. I might need to try it at home, though. Sounds so yummy right now!

i like them all and i will eat them all. the last time i had an entire funnel cake was at Kings Dominion and i ended up with all the powdered sugar on me.... and i couldn't go on any of the major rides after. but it was worth it. i had a fresh fried donut a few weeks ago at the famer's market that was so good, i had to walk around the market a few times to burn it off.
